Assessment Tools (most are free 🙂 !)

Authentic Happiness – 24 Values in Action Signature Strengths.  There is one thing that is a non-negotiable and that is our values.  When looking to make a work life change, or to better understand your relationships, take this survey.  To find out more about how to use your results, contact us!

Personality Max – Myers Briggs and the Multiple Intelligence FREE and others.  When you want to know what your style is, and whether it fits with an organization, these surveys can provide valuable information.

Pearson-Marr Archetype Indicator – The PMAI or Hero Index, paid assessment-only $19.  This assessment helps identify potential blocks or gaps in our development that often make change more difficult.  When you are made aware of your ruling archetypes through the PMAI, seeing the patterns can help ease the way of change.

Assessment.com – Free Skill Assessment.  The MAAP program has been around a while and can really help if you are attempting to re-career or if you need some objectivity about what your skills are.  Skill based resumes are what HR and recruiters are looking for, so this assessment can help you with identifying your top skills.

Free DiSC survey – Measures Dominance, Influence, Steadiness and Compliance.  This information helps you to understand how you might fit in a team, and how you might not!  This survey’s use is highly popular in businesses, it is great to have a copy of your results available for interviews!

Archetypes – This survey will indicate your ruling archetypes.  What is it that influences the development of your values, interests and traits?  This is a good one to use when you are thinking about a big change.

The Department of Labor Skills survey – The ONet has about all the information you could want about jobs- requirements, detailed job description of tasks, salary and future projections.  Oh, did I say, this is free too!  A little more cumbersome to use but with a little help from your coach ;), no problem!

 Books and other Recommendations

Change is a process… learn more about it.

This book talks about what works for those who wish to “self change.”  If you are helping yourself, or you help others with change, this book is essential to have in your library.

Communication begins from within… learn more about it.

The Power of TED is one of the best books that we recommend.  If you have ever wondered if you were getting through to people, or felt victimized by others or life, this simple-yet not so simple, short book is a LIFE CHANGER.

Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself.  Have you ever heard, “Change your Thoughts and you can Change Your World?”  That is what Dispenza teaches you to do.  I also highly recommend his accompanying meditation CD below.  When a coach gives your life a boost, and helps you change your perspective, this information helps it stick.

Here is the accompanying CD to the book.  The meditations are long but really meant to help you shift.  They are not really a regular meditation as they are over an hour and you need to be familiar with the book materials and exercises, not to be used as a stand alone.  Using them has helped me personally to eliminate patterns of anxiety and depression (disclaimer… work with your professionals as needed).

More information on the Assessments and Surveys we use in our coaching practice.

I always recommend the 24 Values In Action Signature Strengths on the authentic happiness website. Positive Psychology theory by Martin Seligman. The book includes a short hand scored version of the assessment with descriptions of each value in detail. Every coach or social worker needs this book among their resources.

This a great companion book to the Pearson Marr Archetype Indicator survey and it includes a hand scored assessment in the workbook!

More descriptors on the archetypes used on the PMAI.  Every life story includes characters… these universal archetypes have meaning.  As a coach, working with archetypes makes change for my clients more manageable and memorable.  Great character tool for writers!

After taking a 16 Personality Factor assessment like the Myers Briggs, what do you do with the results?  This book, which has been updated several times, addresses each type to give a summary of what type of work generally fits, and why, and what doesn’t.  Another essential resource for those in vocational rehabilitation or career coaching.

Everyone has intelligence, we are however, all different as far as our gifts.  This book is a companion to understanding the 7 Intelligences.
